Weigh-Less statistics
Dear Dietdoc,
I know you don't work for Weighless, but I wonder if you are able or allowed to give a response to the following:

I've tried Weighless 3 times over the past 6 years, but was never successful (I need to loose at least 20kg, but never got beyond 8 kg, before gaining weight again). I've recently bought the Weighless magazine, and the success stories sound so great. However, what I want to know is what the unsuccesful rate is with Weighless (eg. percentage of people who don't make it on a yearly basis). I cannot believe that I'm the only one who simply don't have it in me to stick to Weighless. And if there are many like me, whether Weighless looks at the reasons for failure. And whether they could cover this in their books and website.

Thank you.

Dear Salet
As you correctly pointed out, I do not work for Weighless and don't have access to their statistics. I can only suggest that you phone their Head office at: 086-11-00-551 and ask what their failure rate is. It is also important to realise that some individuals will not necessarily lose weight with such a programme. For example if you happen to be suffering from insulin resistance then you would need to use a low glycaemic index (GI) diet to achieve weight loss. Another factor that often helps people to stick to diets and lose weight successfully is the inclusion of regular aerobic exercise on a daily basis. I would recommend that you consult a clinical dietitian (check the List of Dietitians on this Website or phone 082-593-0276 or send an e-mail to sscharf@nhcltd.com or look in your local telephone directory or Yellow Pages, to find a dietitian in your area) and increase your energy expenditure by doing regular exercise (running, jogging, skipping, cycling, swimming, or Walk for Life) on a daily basis.
Hang in there
