congested 247
My husband suffers from sinus, post nasal and mucous all the time, unfortunely has a scar above nose, which seems to block the mucous from coming down, in extreme cases where eyes and temple swells the only way is to take cortisine or it might drip down his throat into stomach. We are trying to manage the situation, we stay away from any medication that drys up, we have found Nerofen seems to relieve the situation. But what I would like to know is why the congestion etc is all the time and how else could we manage the situation as it seems its getting worse, something that was seasonal and now daily. He has been to the Dr, years ago and seems to think an op is the only way which, he is not iinterested in. your advise would be appreciated.

Dear Monica

He needs an urgent ENT examination, as swelling of the temples, and areas around the eye, or the eye itself, may be a sign of complicated sinusitis. This can cause major problems, resulting in loss of vision, or even intracranial complication. The scar may be creating a lot of problems, and even if he does not want surgery, one should re-evaluate the status of the sinusses. A CT scan may also be of value in order to make an informed decision.
It could also just be something as simple as treatable allergies, but in order to make that decision, you would at least require an examination of the sino-nasal passages.
