Back to normal
I lost my baby at 33 weeks and want to try to conceive as soon as possible. GP advised to go back on 3 months of the pill to get my cycle back to normal. Is this necessary or is 2 months enough

Also how long should you idealy be off the pill before conceiving. I have heard of many cases where babies had genetic problems when conceived in the 1st month after leaving the pill.

Your advise will be appreciated.

Dear Anna

Since your pregnancy loss occured at an advanced stage of the pregnancy, it would be advisable, if not already done , that lactation or the production of breast milk be immediately stopped by means of medication. If medication was not used than my recommendation would that even at this stage, treatmnet be instituted.

In addition, the return to fertility after such an advanced pregnancy is delayed somewhat, and it is good advise to use the pill for a minimum of three months.
The associatiopn between the pill and genetic problems in the offspring is not an accepted fact as there is no literature to validate such an association. In many fertility programs the use of a contraceptive pill is an accepted modality of treatment in preparation for various forms of assisted reproduction.
