blocked fallopian tubes
i have recently seen my gp to get the results from my hystosalpingogram. He informed me that my fallopian tubes were blocked and said that my only option for conceiving would be IVF. I was under the impression that my fallopian tubes would be able to be cleared but he never suggested another option. Is it true that i would only be able to have IVF? how much does it cost to have this treatment and how long is the waiting list to have this on the NHS? thanks.....

Dear Louise

The decision to opt for IVF as opposed to tubal surgery would certainly depend on the grading of severity of the hysterolsalpingoram.
However, depending on the x-ray picture, the success of IVF in my opinion would surpass that of tubal surgery. The approximate cost of IVF is in the region of R18 000. Since I practice in a private institution I am not aware of the waiting list in the state run health services.
