I was recently diagnosed with grade 3 endometriosis. I had an laparoscopy to diagnose it, as well as to drain an endometrioma (!0 cm in diameter) on my left ovary. My gynae also said that I had a lot of adhesions and that my left fallopian tube was also involved. Also my uterus is attached as a result of the adhesions. As I am 29 yrs old and have had no children she said that I'd probably need ivf to fall pregnant. As a result she put me onto Zoladex for 3 months followed by a re-evaluation. My Zoladex injection was on 07 August 2007. What are the chances of me successfully becoming pregnant and what are the costs per ivf cycle (I live in jhb) ? Also, if I do become pregnant, are twins advisable ? Also, would a hysterectomy afterwards be advisable ? What do you think of acupuncture to improve my ivf chances of success

Dear Desperate C

Certainly the level or extent of the endometriosis you described is advanced and I agree would require invitro fertilisation. The approximate cost of a reasonably good IVF protocol is between R14 000 and R24 000. There is no reason why a twin pregnancy in your instance should be any different from any other twin pregnancy once conception has taken place.
