FSH before IVF
Hi Doctor

I was planned to start my IVF on this cycle on day 21. I did my FSH blood test on day 4, and the result was 14.5 iu / l ....can I still go ahead with my IVF on this cycle with the given fsh level? What are the implications of this level?

Many thanks,
Belle

Dear Belle

Fsh can fluctuate from one month to the next within the same patient. FSH is a predictor of ones ovarian reserves as well as a predictor of ovarian response to stimulation. An FSH level on day 2 above 10 is usually an indicator of poor ovarian reserve and possibly a lower outcome to stimulation. This however does not mean that IVF is not possible in women with a raised FSH level. You may require a higher dose of stimulation and as long as you are aware that your ovarian response may not be ideal and you may expect a lower oocyte yield then you can go ahead with an IVF cycle.
