high estrogen levels
hi, doc
i just had a failed IVF. according to my fs embrios were of exellent quality, he transferred 3 on day 5. My estrogen levels were very high because 29 eggs were retrieved. Do you think that the high estrogen levels could be linked to failed ivf. i am 27 years old, only problem is stage 2 endo. with a future ivf what could be done to prevent such high estrogen levels. thanks for advice!

Dear Angie
The extremely high oestrogen level as well as the huge number of eggs suggest that ovulation induction was far too aggressive. In such cases it has been documented that pregnancy rates in fact will decrease and the risk of hyper stimulation syndrome will increase significantly. I presume that many embryos were generated and the option of embryo freezing was taken. If this was the case then you can look forward to a frozen embryo transfer cycle/s in the near future. However should these frozen embryo transfer cycles fail or if no embryos were available for freezing, then I would recommend a soft stimulation protocol in you next IVF cycle and aimed at obtaining no more than 15 eggs, ideally between 6 and 8 eggs so as to prevent excessive fluid accumulation in the pelvis and excessive estrogen stimulation of the endometrium (lining of the womb).
