Malaria and pregnancy
Hi Dr

I have been ttc for over 3 years now, and December is coming up, Hubbie wants to go to Mozambique which means I will have to take Malaria tablets

I am scared that if i become pregnant after 3 years and take malaria tablet, that I could loose my baby or cause serious problems.

Is there any anti malaria drug that my FS would recommend in case I do fall pregnant?

After 3 years hubbie no longer wants to plan holidays around the "chance that I could be pregnant" but at the same time I do not ever want to stop trying ------ You never know !!!

Dear Gen

All anti-malarials in general are contra-indicated in the first trimester or if you are trying to conceive. On the other hand, contracting malaria also is a serious problem in the early stages of pregnancy and therefore my advice would be to avoid malaria risk areas in the first instance.
