The pains are often due to contractile factors present within the seminal fluid especially if a sperm wash was not done properly. Occasionally, if the insemination was done with instrumentation one can expect uterine contractions as well, which may be the cause of the period like pains. However, in general, the overall outcome should not be significantly altered i.e. the likelihood of pregnancy would remain good despite these contractions.
