Utrogestan & cyclogest
Hi Doc

We did IVF with on 20.08 and we are now pregnant.

My hcg levels and estrogen levels are fine. However the progsterone is rather low.
On 600mg cyclogest progesterone level was 31.6
On 800mg " " " " 23.0

Then I was prescribed 600 mg cyclogest and 200mg utogestan, the level then went to 34.

I am now getting very mild brown bleeding. The docor then told me that it could be that I had a "bad" batch of cyclogest or that the blood test is not picking up the cyclogest and / utrogestan.

Is this possible, I thought everything could be detected via blood?

I am now to start taking 1 x Gestone injection daily. And stop the cyclogest / utogestan. Also wondering about that as currently I'm taking a total of 800mg progesterone and one ampule of gestone is only 50mg?

Dear Jackson

The advice given by the fertility specialist is accurate and should be followed. Certainly Gestone is the most effective means of ensuring that progesterone is absorbed systemically. The differences in dosage between the injection and pessories or the Utrogestan capsules is not of any significance, as the levels measured in the blood are in international units (IU) and not in milligrams.
