Am I doing to much?
Hey Doc

Everythings seem's to be going well. Too well I think. I am becoming a bit addictive to the gym. I am cycling 5-6km's everymorning on the stationery bike. This usually get's done in 20minutes. My ankles seem to be taking a bit of strain lately. But overall I feel wonderful. I do give myself a off day on a Sunday, but am afraid of doing lots more damage than good. Am I doing to much to fast?

It doesn't sound like it - 20 minutes of exercise is not excessive by any means. In fact, most times, I suggest that people build up to about 45 minutes to an hour of exercise per day. Obviously, when you are starting out, that has to be much less so that you can avoid becoming injured, but then later, it should easily be manageable. THe main thing is that you feel OK doing it - if you finish 20 minutes and feel reasonably good (not fresh as a daisy, obviously, but still strong), then it's not too hard. So my gut feel is no, you are not doing too much at all.

Your ankle problem could be caused by a number of things. It may be that the saddle is a little bit low - this can put more strain on the ankles, so look at that. Also, if you are at the gym, perhaps you should consider doing some exercises for the ankles and calves (in fact, you don't even need to be at the gym), you just need a step that you can stand on with your heels hanging off the back edge, and then do calf raises. Do 3 sets of 10 each day on each leg, one leg at a time.
