Enough?
If I walk and or jog for 40 minutes 3 times a week and my heartrate is +- 140 - will this help to loose weight and tone before the summer?

If not, what else should I do?

It's a start, for sure, but the whole weight loss from exercise is not as simple as just doing the exercise. There is a massive diet part to this, and so you need to see someone about the diet if you are not already. That is the key, not the exercise. The exercise is great for toning, and it will certainly help you to lose weight and redefine muscle, but for weight lOSS, diet is still king. And so combining the two gives the best results by far.

Now, with regards to what you are doing, there are two things. The first is the frequency of training - 3 times a week is great, it's 3 times more than many people do. But if you increased this to 4, then suddenly you would go from training less than half the time to more than half the time. I believe this is a big difference and so I would suggest that you add a fourth day. Otherwise, it takes much longer to see effects. Finally, with regards to intensity, if you are finishing those 40 minutes feeling like you could do maybe another 10 or 20 at a push, with a lot of effort, then it's fine, regardless of heart rate. DOn't get caught in the heart rate trap - it's a guide, that's all. The more important thing is that the intensity must be hard, but not exhausting. If your heart rate is 160, fine. If it's 120, that is fine too. But just listen to your body.
