No, this is a myth - consider swimming and training in a cold environment - you might not sweat in either case, and yet get a very good workout!
Train on your bike for at least 30 minutes 3 x per week (2 sessions moderate intensity, 1 session - push harder), but supplement this with some walking (2 times a week - about 30 - 45 mins). I suggest you log onto www.health24.co.za and try the free home-based programme, (fitness page) - "Shape up for Summer", so that you can try the resistance exercises outlined there.
