Verimark Elliptical Trainer (Orbitrek)
Hi Doc

Please give me your honest opinion on this piece of equipment. How would running outdoors compare to the same amount of time and intesity on this baby?

Hi Tofsy

Honestly, I am a traditional exercise fan, and I don't think that anything has been invented that challenges running or cycling or cross country skiing (for the nordic countries, maybe!) outdoors. All these devices are trying to do is to make exercise more accessible. The same goes for treadmills, spinning bikes and indoors cycles. The key then is that if you use it regularly, you benefit. Otherwise, you don't. But the equipment is merely the tool, and you have to use it for results. In terms of comparisons, running (apart from cross country skiing) actually burns more calories per minute than any other activity, simply because it uses all muscles, and it's weight bearing. the orbitrainer falls short of it, but again, there are advantages such as reduced impact. the decision is ultimately yours, but just keep in mind that whatever you do, you have to do it often to cause effect.

Good luck
