Hi again Peeking and thanks for posting.

Many gay and lesbian people are feeling incredibly vulnerable right now - we're experiencing the full front of irrational prejudice and discrimination head-on. Some people are even feeling traumatised, and many are feeling a sense of abuse.

Try not to take it too personally - these people don't know you and it isn't aimed at you as an individual. Prejudice, by nature, is an irrational generalisation aimed at a particular segment of the community (in exactly the same way that racism is constructed). Much homoprejudice is wrapped in the guise of Christianity - my mind boggles at their indifference to the insult and hurt they cause to so many people, including our friends, families and loved ones.

If you'd like to chat to a gay counsellor, in confidence, please feel free to call the Gay & Lesbian Helpline, a Triangle Project service. The Helpline is available every day (including weekends) between 1pm and 9pm - (021) 4 222 500.
