Dear Gynaedoc

I am due to fly internationally, and will be about halfway through my pregnancy. I've been told by my doctor that I should take Disprin for approximately a week before I fly, to reduce the risk of thrombosis. I am generally scared to take any medication in pregnancy. What is your feeling on this? What strength - if any - should I take, and for what time period? Is there an alternative?

It is fine to take low dose aspirin in pregnancy - 81 mg. The exact period of time that it should be taken when flying is uncertain. The alternatives are to drink lots of water and move around a lot during the flight.

Best wishes
