Bladder infection
Morning, I hope you can help.

Last week I went for a check up with my GP because a blood test confirmed I was pregnant. I was 4 weeks at the time. I did the normal antenatal screening and a urine test. The urine test was 2+ and the dr advised that I return a week later to re-test. I went yesterday (now 5 weeks) and the test was 3+. I don't think my GP was very helpful. He told me to take Citric Soda. When I asked if my baby is at risk from the bladder infection or the CS, he just walked away. This didn't do much to make me feel better about the situation. I don't have a burning sensation when I urinate or any other symptoms of a bladder infection apart from a slight discharge. I have been drinking a lot of water and I am making sure that I empty my bladder every time I visit the loo. I also make sure that I go when I need it. Is it harmful to take CS twice a day and is there any harm due to the bladder infection? I appreciate your help.

I presume that you had 2+ protein in your urine. Citrosoda is safe in pregnancy but I do think that you should have a proper urine sample sent to the lab to see if this is a bladder infection and how severe it is. Antibiotics may be necessary.

Best wishes
