enlarged uterus w/ "old blood" before and after period
Hi,
For the last 2 years I have been having periods where I start "bleeding" brown muck that looks like old blood 3-5 days before my period, I also have the same "bleeding for a couple days after my normal period of 5 days. My doctor has done a pelvic ultrasound and a transvaginal ultra sound. I was told that my uterus is enlarged, (10 cm ) and the lining of my uterus seemed thicker than normal. I'm crampy all of the time and sex has begun to hurt. My regular doc doesn't seem to know what is going on, as I have yet to get any answers as to what might be causing my symptoms. I go back in 2 months for more tests, but do you have any ideas on why this is happening, what is the brown muck, and is an enlarged uterus a concern? I am 29 years old, have had 2 kids, and have never had any kind of period problems up till now. If you could shed some light on the subject I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for your time, Kit

It really depends on the reason for the enlarged uterus. One cause that may fit your symptoms is adenomyosis. You could ask your doctor about this. The spotting before and after the period may be related to the womb lining not being shed regularly, and this is not really a problem in itself. It may be worth having a hysteroscopy done to see if there are any polyps in the uterus.

Best wishes
