Fibroids
I have just heard that hormone imbalance be the cause of fibroids growing rapidly. Is this tue? My fibroids grew from 3 of 5 cms each in April 2003 to an average of 11 cm in May 2004. My gynae has recomemnded surgery ASAP but I'm very concerned about my fertility after surgery. I'm still considering surgery because the fibroids are a real problem now. Sometimes they are painful and also I loose a lot of blood when I'm menstruating to such an extent that I use the 8 pads on day 1. Someone has recommended the natural progesterone cream to balance the hormones, and possibly shrinking the fibroids thus avoiding surgery. Please advise if the hormone alancing is an alternative. Thanks

Oestrogen causes fibroids to grow, but it is not a hormone imbalance that is responsible. Progesterone cream will not help. Your options are removal of the fibroid (myomectomy), hysterectomy (not ideal if you are planning a family) or a new procedure called embolisation.
