Pregnant & have cyst in ovary
Hi,

I am 7 weeks pregnant and went for my first scan today. I had a very sharp cramp in my left side this morning and the scan revealed a cyst in my left ovary. My gynae said that the cyst should disappear around 14 weeks and should not be removed as it is producing hormones necessary for the pregnancy. He said that it is normal, but I've never heard of this before. Any comments?

Thanks,
Janine

It is true. A corpus luteum cyst is there to keep the pregnancy going until the placenta has formed properly. Sometimes this can be quite large and painful.

Best wishes
