Safety of Clomid

I stopped my pill last Sept (after being on it for 9yrs) and have not had a regular period since. My Gynae put me onto Clomid to kick start my cycles this week as we are hoping to fall pregnant this year. Is it safe to fall pregnant on Clomid i.e.are there any risks for Mom and baby from taking the medication. Also is it advisable to experience a few normal cycles before falling pregnant?

The main side effect of Clomid is multiple pregnancy. It is not necessary to have normal cycles before falling pregnant. This is manly to allow accurate dating of the pregnancy, but a scan will do that too.
