My wife is smoking 10 smokes a day during the first trimester. She was pregant with twins. Today I found out at the gynae that one does not have a heart beat. How could this occur, and could smoking be the cause?

Smoking can cause an intrauterine death but there are many other causes for one twin dying, mostly related to unequal sharing of the placenta.
