Terrible pain in my shoulder
Hi - i wonder if you can assist.

For about the last month i have been having pain in my right shoulder. it is getting worse to the point i actuall yelp in pain for the simpelist things like turning on a tap or pulling a plug out the wall.

When i rotate my shoulder it makes several clicking noises. regardless of how many times i try. And at times seems to pop out (which is the most painfull). My range of movement is also totally limited.

I was attacked about a year ago and in that my shoulder was hurt but i recovered quickly from that and it hasnt given me a problem until lately.

What could this be.

Dear Linc
It sounds like it could be a Rotator Cuff injury which may be the result of a small tear in the tendon, a bursitis or tendinitis or calcification.
I suggest you make an appointment with an orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in shoulders. Your GP may also be able to help by doing a physical examination and maybe some x-rays. Some doctors specialise in sports injuries and may also be able to help. Anti-inflammatory drugs and even a cortisone injection may help. Surgery is usually only done when there is a complete rotator cuff tear. Conservative measures like resting the arm, using a sling and the abovementioned drugs are usually the first treatment option.
