poor hearing of speech only
I had a pure tone hearing test recently and was told there is absolutely nothing wrong with my hearing so no further tests were done. However, I know that I do not hear speech as clearly as I used to and I have started to have some difficulty carrying on a conversation in a room full of talking people. On the other hand, I am the one in the family who wants the TV turned down lowest... not that loud sounds hurt my ears- I just don't need them. Do I have anything wrong?

Jun,

There are definitely documented cases of people who have normal hearing thresholds but who has poor discrimination ability.

Your hearing care professional should do a discrimination tests to determine if you have problems in this area. If this is found to be so, there are a lot of options for you. Certain devices can help with discrimination ability without adding volume which you do not need.

Please consult with a hearing care professional to do these more extensive tests to determine if you have a discrimination problem and to counsel you on the alternatives.
