breast development due to IVF?
Our 5 month old baby daughter was conceived via IVF. She now has breast development and the doctor says that this is becuase of the hormones which I took whilst I was pregnant. Is this so and is this cause for concern?
This is very common in young infants and is due to the mother's hormones still affecting the infant. It is called neonatal gynaecomastia. Usually the breast swelling disappears by the age of 2 or 3 months. It is unusual for the breast swelling to perist to 5 months. No treatment is needed in infants with neonatal gynaecomastia.Give your baby at least another month and if the swelling persists have her seen by a paediatric endocrinologist.
