chronic cough, 19 month old
My 19 mnth old has a chronic cough for the last 4 months. She has been on antibiotic twice. Other symptoms is a runny nose and when her chest is bad I can hear crepitations. She is otherwise strong and eats well. The cough is bad at night from 2 o'clock and when she wakes. Sometimes she vomits white phelgm when she has a coughing spell. It is worse after running or playing. She seems sick and hot when she wakes, and is very irritated. I do not smoke or keep animals in the house, but we do live on a farm. She is in a chreche in the day. My eldest had baby asthma and so did my brother. My GP says it is just cold and flu.

Asthma is a possible cause of your child's persistent cough, but the story sounds more like whooping cough from your description. Go back to your paediatrician and tell him that your toddler has whooping cough and to treat him for this.
