How do I feed formula at night times
Hi Doctor,

I am currently breastfeeding my 5 month old son, but want to put him onto formula at night. I usually take him out of his cot when he moans and breastfeed him lying down. Once he is asleep, I carry him back to his cot. I have read that you should not feed babies formula when they are lying down, but breast milk is okay as it is thin. This is to prevent ear infections.

So do I take him out of his cot and feed him the formula milk whilst in an upright position in my arms, or can he drink it whilst lying in his cot, with his head propped up on a pillow? Is it bad for them to fall asleep whilst sucking on the bottle? I don' t want to set a precedent so that he wakes up to drink.

Your baby is still very young and you need to feed him while he is in your arms.
