In the best interest of a newborn?
Hi Dr
I am expecting my first child and from a baby prof, I would like to find out which birth option, caesar or vaginal delivery is best and as least traumatic for a newborn. Do you see a higher apgar score in one type of delivery than another? I have heard of babies going into distress during labour, being born blue from a long delivery, forceps, vacuum and then there is the risk of wet lung in a caesar delivery. I waited a very long time for this pregnancy and I am really worried about her safety during delivery.
Thanks for your input.

There is no complete answer to your question about different methods of delivery and Apgar scores. However in your circumstances I would choose a caesar. A paediatrician will be present in the operating theatre to look after your baby from the moment of birth.
