Iron /allegies /feet
HI Dr,

My LO is now 18 months old, at about 3 months, i had blood test done, which showed my LO' s iron levels are not sufficient, for the past couple of months she has been on Ferrimed, stareted at 1.5ml, and 6 months later increased to 2.5ml. When i took my Lo for her 18 months injection, the nurse asked me some questions, and i told her about the iron deficiency. She looked at the lab results and said that the results is normal. Should i just take her off the meds?

2. She also has a count of 11 for allergies, and the doc explained to me that a normal count is 1. She prescribed zyrtec (i don' t give it - as it makes her drowsy) but has no reaction to any food, except that she has dark circles around her eyes, and she is not a good sleeper as well. I read in a book that if your child is on soy formula that this can be a cause of allergies? Should i just stop giving her formula milk?

3. She walks on her toes, she can put her feet on the ground, and stand like that without any discomfort. but as soon as she starts walking, it is on her toes again. What can i do to correct the way of walking. She went through all the normal stages. crawl then walk.

In answer to your 3 questions:
1] You can stop the iron supplement as your little girl's iron level is normal.contine on a healthy diet with foods rich in iron such as wholewheat bread, oats,All Bran, pilchards, liver and kidneys.
2]There is nothing to suggestt your child has any actual allergic symptoms, so she certainly does not need to be on an antihistamine such as Zyrtsec.
3]Toe walking should be assessed. She is still very young and has probably only been walking for a few months. It would be a good idea just to ask a physiotherapist to assess her.
