Jaundice
My grandson was born Monday night, They were discharged from hospital yesturday. Today my son said to me it looks like he is turning a bit yellow. I saw him last night and he look fine to me. My son bought a UV light today for him lie under. What can happen if we don't treat it? And why does it happen. I know 9out of10 babies gets it. Just want to know if it is dangerous?
Your son must not treat his baby's newborn jaundice on his own. The infants eyes need protection when placed under UV light and in any case one needs a particular wavelength of light. Please see that the infant is seen by a nurse or doctor and the baby's bilirubin level is checked if this is thought to be necessary.
