Loose nail
Hi Dr!

My 2 year old daughter pinched her finger in the cupboard door about a week ago.

I immediately picked her up and put her hand under running water. The blood was flowing from under her nail, and there was a blue pinch mark under her finger. The bleeding stopped, I gave her panado syrup and applied Bactroban around the nail for 3 days.

Her nail is now completely loose and only fixed right at the top of her finger. There is no sign of a new nail yet.

Is her nail going to be mishaped? Should I have had the nail pulled? Is there anything I can do now to assist in the healing?

The nail will grow back but it is going to take quite a long time . You should continue to keep the nail area sterile with the Bactroban. If you are concerned ask your GP to see her.
