Nose bleeds - cortorize
Hi Dr, my 7 year old has been having a lot of nose bleeds for the last few months. It does go through stages though, but at the moment it is quite bad with a bleed every night whilst she is asleep and sometimes in the day. Please could you give me your opinion on how bad it should be before considering having it cortorized, and if we didnt do it and left it could she have other problems due to the blood loss?

Many thanks

Your daughter is having nose bleeds almost every night. This is of concern because there must be a reason for this problem. She may have developed a problem with small blood vessels in her nose which are bleeding and need to be cauterised or she may have a blood problem which is causing these nose bleeds. She should be seen by her doctor and should have a full blood count done to make sure that her blood cells are normal. If all is well with her blood and the nose bleeds continue she will need to be seen by an ENT specialist as she may need a cautery of her nose to stop the bleeding.
