Persistant diarrhoea
Dear Doc,
My 3and a half month old baby has had diarrhoea for more than a month now. Initially it was just watery, mucousy, frequent stools, but he was not sickly or vomiting. The stools persisted and I started giving him Culturelle probiotic with every bottle. (He was on Nan as I am unable to breastfeed due to previous breast surgeries). Then the Ped suggested that I put him onto Nan lactose free, I did that and continued the Culturelle. The stools continued (10 - 12 a day). He also developed a persistant nappy rash. We sent a stool sample away, but it came back negative. Then we moved to Isomil and he has been on that for a week and a half now, and he still has diarrhoea and a terrible rash that is not responding to antifungul or any other nappy cream perperations. He is strarting to loose weight (he lost 200g this week) and now he is taking Immodium 2,5ml twice a day. (He has had 2 doses). This weekend he had a very high temp (39.6) and refused feeds. His temp dropped to low grade on Sun and now is normal and he is feeding again. (about 600ml a day). He developed a rash on his face and a phlemy cough. He weighs 6.7kgs ( was 6.9). He is tired a lot and just not himself. So far the stools persists and my doc does not seem to concerned or interested. Can you please tell me what to do next. Especially about the rash and to stop the diarrhoea and should I get another opinion.
Kind regards
Belinda
