My son is 17 wks old and is on a antibiotic " pemanently"  due to two uti infections that he had before he was three months old....all testing came back normal though however he is taking this antibiotic (2.5ml daily) for prevention of getting another uti...(specialist recommendation) I just want to know...should I continuosly (every day) give him a probiotic (lacteol forte as he does not want to take the reutori) or should I just give it to him for ten days a month?

I am not in favour of keeping your baby on a 'permanent' antibiotic. Most infections at his age are caused by viruses and an antibiotic will be of no benefit in preventing these infections. In addition babies are immunised against the 2 most common bacterial infections they are likely to develop namely pneumococcus and haemophilus. Also the winter cough and cold season is now over.I really would like you to discuss taking him off this antibiotic with your paediatrician.
You can give the Lacteol forte for 10 days per month to boost his immune system.
