Reflux and Losec
Dear Doctor and Other Moms

My baby is 10 weeks old and had quite bad reflux (projectile vomiting and curdled milk). He has, this last week started rejecting the breast when feeding and as a result has only gained 140g in a week where previously he gained on average 220g per week. We have ruled out other possibilities for the rejection of the breast ie fever, ear ache, teething, changes in my diet and daily program, etc.
The doctor has now prescribed Losec tablets for the posseting/reflux.

Two questions:
1. How long before the Losec tablets kick in and I can start expecting him to feed better or have to worry more and take him back to the doctor?
2. Are there other reasons for rejection of the breast?

I do not like the diagnosis of reflux in a male infant who has projectile vomiting. I think he has a problem called pyloric stenosis where the outlet valve of the stomach is thickened and does not relax properly. Go right back to your paediatrician [ASAP!] and tell him to look for PYLORIC STENOSIS in your baby.
