Taking the dummy away
Hi Doc,

My daughter just turned 3 last week and i REALLY want to take her dummy away! She doesnt have it during the day only at night but she is very attached to it. It is okay for me to just go cold turkey and take it away - will this have any later effects to her? Or do I just leave her with it until she is ready to give it up on her own?

It is time for your daughter to give up her dummy. If you simply take it away she may not want to fall asleep and may be quite upset. The best way is to continue giving her the dummy. Cut a small piece off the tip of the teat of the dummy every evening before bedtime. After a few nights there will be hardly anything for her to suck on and she will simply give it up by herself.
