Upper Airway Infection
Hi Professor,

My 2 year old son gets Upper Airway Infections every month and I really don''t know what to do anymore. Last month he was put on anti biotics, which I stopped as he developed bad diarrhoea which in turn gave him a bad, bleeding nappy rash. I am reluctant to put him on anti biotics again. His temperature today is 38.3 and he vomited his porridge this morning. He has since kept down a bowl of yoghurt. He won''t let me check his tonsils. I have given him 5ml of Panado syrup for his temperature and I also give him 2.5ml daily of Deselex. I have a nebulizer, can I use it daily on a continuous basis? I just put Saline solution in it, will this do? I give him 1 tablet of Junior Probiflora for 5 days, once a month and 1 spray in each nostril of Chamiflor daily. He also has a cough which does not seem to want to go away. I have Mucospect but don''t want to use it on a continuous basis.

Thank you for your time.

It is very possible that your son's repeated upper airway infection is due to infected and enlarged adenoids. He has the typical symptoms of a child with a persistent post-nasal drip. He should be seen by an ENT specialist who needs to decide whether your son does indeed have this problem with his adenoids.
