MAXIM
Dear Pharmacist
Can you please tell me where in SA I could obtain Maxim deodorant? It is used for hyperhidrosis, but is suitable for excessive facial sweating. I have been to the StopSweat website, however am reluctant to order from overseas / give out credit card details. What kind of specialist would prescribe a deo for face (I've had no luck) trying to source or any product like it.
Thank you

Maxim is not available in SA yet and you'll HAVE to order it from the internet. Contact your bank for advice on safe internet transactions. There are no deo's available on prescription - The only ones available is the well known ones such as drichlor and perspirex. According to the manufacture these should be used with caution on the face and only if no other option is available. Some have used it with succuss - Avoid any contact with the eyes.
Otherwise speak to your doctor about this. There are some prescription items (tablets) that can be tried and surgical intervention is also a possibility.
Medicines that block the effect of the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands are sometimes used. For example, propantheline (Pro-Banthine). These medicines are not used very often. This is because the success of these medicines is variable. Also, side-effects commonly occur. For example, a dry mouth and blurred vision. However, in some cases they work well and side-effects are minor.
