Dear Mel
The classical definition of spastic colon according to my one textbook is: alternating bouts of diarrhoea and constipation with cramps, bloating and nausea, but the symptoms can vary considerably from patient to patient. If you suspect that you may have this condition, then it is always a good idea to consult a medical dr, because diarrhoea, cramps and bloating can also be caused by a number of other conditions, including food sensitivity, intolerance and allergy. The treatment for spastic colon or irritable bowel disease consists of increasing dietary fibre intake, avoiding foods that cause YOU discomfort and using a variety of techniques to lower stress. Click on 'Diet' and 'View old diet and food site' and read the articles on high-fibre and IBS, or do a Search with 'Irritable Bowel Disease' on this Website.
