Badly behaved teen
Hi Doc, My 13 year old daughter has ADHD and is always in trouble at school for her behaviour. Honestly, it is more her bad attitude that gets her into trouble than the ADHD stuff. I've tried EVERYTHING to get through to her - nothing works. Her current excuse for this is that it is a "phase". This phase has been going on for the last 3 years at least! At home she is rude, refuses to do chores, backchats and is cheeky. She also throws temper tantrums and has these fits of hysteria if I punish her by taking her phone away etc. I'm a single mom, and the stress of all of this landed me in casualty last year with chronic high blood prssure and the possibility of heart attack. I'm now on meds to control all of this, but I cant take much more of this constant ugliness with her. I've taken her for therapy, taken her to a psychologist, she is on Ritalin for the ADHD and I've read every book or article on behavioural problems, and I'm now at the end of my tether. The school has also send me a letter to say she is a bully and must go to the school councellor for some session - which is fine with me, but I dont hold out much hope. Please help - I'm at the end of my rope now. Thanks
