Hi Doc Early March my mom and I visited my brother in East London and a couple of days later I had a very bad choking attack while eating a chicken roll. Fortunately my brother was around - he walloped me on the back so hard (he thought he might have damaged a rib or too it was so hard!) This did not initally help - he then tried the Heimlich manouver - this didnt help either - so, not knowing what else to do, he carried on hitting me on the back - I think I eventually managed to swallow whatever was causing the chokng - I wasnt able to cough it up, unfortunately. Rather scary for everybody, especially me as I couldn't breathe for part of the time! Anyway, only after we came home – 1 wk later, about 18/03, I started getting this burning throat and very, very bad heartburn! I had to go to my gp for my regular blood & urine tests so I mentioned the above to him - he gave me (this was end March) 40mg Nexiam (14) one at night. I took 1 for 2 nights and as there was little improvement, I called him 2 days later and was told to take 2 for that Fri, Sat and Sun (that was last week) It still was not better on the Sun (03/04) so I called my gp again and he said he needed to do an ecg to rule out any lung/heart problems - could I go to his rooms today (Sun)? As I do not drive or have easy transport over the weekend, I said I would come on the Monday am, which he agreed to. 15 mins later he called me back and said, no, this could not wait I was to go and see him right away to have the ecg! I managed to get to his rooms and have the ecg & had bloods - phoned for results later that day - had slightly high elevated heart enzyme levels (my gp has NEVER had any need to do any heart-related blood tests for me EVER!) and he had spoken to the cardiologist who said I needed to have the tests repeated Mon am - so off I had to go again for another blood test (I am now lookng like a pin cushion - bruises all up my arm - had to see the cardiologist Mon am and have chest x-rays (all were fine - cardiologist says from his side things were fine - thank goodness!) whatever treatment I needed would be provided by my gp. Had another blood test yesterday - much same as Mon, but gp not too worried as I have been cleared by the cardiologist - got 2nd course of Nexiam yesterday 40mg to take for 2 wks - have also been taking Motilium 3x a day! My question now is I have been finding this extremely distressing - this heartburn has been going on now for 3wks (my gp knows thiis!) Prt2
