Basmati rice
Hi. I am trying to eat low gi diet. Is it ok to eat half a cup basmati rice for lunch with curry that does not contain alot of oil. About 1 tblsp? Thanx

Basmati rice is classified as a medium-GI food (brown and Tastic rice are low-GI according to the SA Glycemic Index Guide). If the curry contains meat, legumes or low-GI vegetables such as green beans or peas, sweet potato, and the oil, the GI or glycaemic load (GL) of the meal will be lowered. However if you are using this meal to lose weight, then eating that tablespoon of oil will contribute 555 kJ to your energy intake which represents 8,8% of your daily intake when slimming, so do try to reduce the amount of oil you use.
