Benefits of Cinnamon
Hi there

I''ve read a few emails doing the rounds regarding the benefits of cinnamon. Is there any truth to them? E.g, cinnamon reducess cholestrol, helps with arthritis, relieves toothache, cures headaches and migraines etc.

Hi

the clinical studies currently are contradictory. This means some are showing it is helping for diabetes and some not. Clinical studies is only part of the body of evidence. If you look at folklore and history, Cinnamon has been indicated to help for the above conditions mentioned in your question.

the mechanism of action : Polyphenolic polymers such as hydroxychalcone found in cassia cinnamon seem to potentiate insulin action. These compounds seem to increase phosphorylation of the insulin receptor, which increases insulin sensitivity. Increased insulin sensitivity may improve blood glucose control and lipid levels. Cinnamon extracts also seem to activate glycogen synthetase and increase glucose uptake.
