Bipolar PRegnancy
Hi There
I am bipolar and my husband is not. Can you perhaps tell me the chances of our baby being born bipolar or being born "normal".
Thanks
P

Dear Peta
It is only possible to predict risk if we have a clear understanding of the genetic basis of a disease, which is not the case for bipolar. Given that it is a multi-factorial disorder (caused by complex interaction between genes and environment) the risk will not be higher than 1 in 20.
