Dear Handy-Andy,
Yes, a well-trained clinical psychologist should indeed be able to help with such problems ; as could some psychiatrists, especially if they had trained in the field we call Consultation-Liaison Psychiary, which focusses on the overlap between psychological / psychiatric problems and physical illness or related problems. Adapting to the loss of body parts, including such matters as the forms of Grief that usually follow such losses, the Phantom Limb experience, or feeling itching or pain in the body part that is no longer there, can be helped with their advice ; perhaps occasionally calling on a neurologist's advice.
Basically all psychologists ( like psychiatrists who are also fully medically qualified ) study the human mind and brain and its workings and dysfunctions and disorders. The reason I specify a Clinical Psychologist as the person to see for many of the problems we hear about in the Forum, is that a Clinical Psychologist ought to have had further training specifically within a clinical and hospital setting, and thus experience of real health problems. By contrast, some other psychologists focus puely on vocational and job-related problems, or educational problems, and would be likely to be less useful in the sort of problem you've identified.
