depression and anxiety
i am a naturally depressed person, by this i mean i get depressed for no apparent reason, like there is no actual stress that causes it. i actualy think that it may be hereditary:( or some chemical imbalance, but i am learning to sort of handle it now. i am 20 years old, and have have a few bouts of depression, but it hasnt been major depression, just mild depression. i have been on precribed antidepressants before but i noticed that it actualy worsen the situation, but when i stop taking them i am perfectly fine. when i had the next bout of depression, i tried something more herbal, hypericon which i think is similar to st johns wort. this definately did help me, so i started taking st johns wort again about 2 weeks ago...i know it takes about 6 weeks to kick in, but i have to admit this is one of the hardest times to get through, i tend to worry about the most littlest of things, i sometimes feel that i am going mad...this is normal right?
There is a condition called Dysthymia, which is a sort of lobger-lasting less severe depression, as another, perhaps overlapping, possibility. I'd think that Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy, CBT, could suit you well --- a form of counselling rather than chemicals. And do you know that St JOhn's Wort has similar chemical ffects to Priozac ? SOme evidence that it works in mild depression rather than more severe depressions. You sound like a very normal person who gets depressed.
