Dear MJ
I trust that your ulcers and your diabetes are being treated by a physician? if not, please consult a physician who has specialised in diabetes. Basically you need a diet that is rich in protective nutrients to promote wound healing: plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables (at least 7 portions a day), lean meat, fish and eggs (4 per week), plus 3 cups of fat-free milk or yoghurt or cottage cheese a day, whole, unsifted grains and cereals, legumes (cooked or canned dry beans, peas or lentils or soya), and poly- or monounsaturated oils or margarine (olive oil, tub marg, etc) to provide all the nutrients the body requires for good health. Ask the physician to refer you to a dietitian because you need to be on the correct diet to control your blood sugar levels so that your wounds can heal. The physician will also determine if you need to take special vitamin and mineral supplements such as Diabion which has been specially formulated for diabetics.
