diet prior to excercise
My son who is 14 plays a lot of squash, but tends to get tired while playing.
Can you recommend what he should be eating/drinking before & during playing?
Many thanks..

Dear Mum
Athletes need to eat a light meal an hour or so before participating in sport (e.g. wholewheat sandwiches with some protein like cheese or lean meat or fish together with fruit and/or fruit juice). Immediately before participating he can also eat an energy bar and while participating he can use an energy drink like Powerade, Energade or EnerG (he needs to try them out to see which product agrees well with his digestion). Once he has completed the sport, he should also have half a cup of an energy drink. This provision of carbohydrate provides instant energy for physical activity and the top-up afterwards helps the body to replenish depleted glycogen stores in the liver.
Best regards
