Dizzy spells at 80

My mother-in-law is 80yr old and often has these odd dizzy spells where she feels as if she is going to faint. She sometimes loses her vision in these spells, but they only last for 30 seconds or so. She said she sometimes hears a ringing in her ears and has a funny feeling down her arms. Where should I take her to be checked out, and what could be causing this?
