Dog with Type 1 Diabetes
Our dog started having fits, and our vet says that she has Type 1 Diabetes and will need daily insulin injections. Are there any tablets available which could replace the injections.

In dogs the tablets are not effective. The only treatment for diabetes is insulin injections. These can be extremely successful and I have many diabetic patients that live a completely normal life and with a relatively normal life expectancy. It is important that the insulin be managed well to obtain a good control over the disease. Do not be scared of the injections, they are easy to give and not painful at all.
